Ski Guide Sled Tarp
Designed for backcountry rescue, this tarp is the multi-tool you didn’t know you needed. Use it to transport an injured partner, build an emergency snow cave, or configure as a bivy sack or bothy bag.
Built from Challenge Sailcloth’s new ULTRAGRID fabric (UHMWPE + recycled polyester) in the center and silicone ripstop nylon on the perimeter, it’s the toughest guide tarp available. A foot-box feature with 8 tie-downs reduces the chance of sliding, while Kam Snaps allow quick bivy/bothy setups.

Super robust sled tarp. Tested this extensively during an AMGA ski guide course where it was the clear winner in terms of durability and overall usability. It has straps/hooks/securement in all the exactly right places.
There are lighter tarps out there but they fall apart when actually put to the test. Carried frequently throughout winter guiding and personal trips. This thing will stand up to practice and training rounds, and when emergency/repair/First aid gear is split up among the crew, it is not going to over-encumber you.
A Guide tarp like this is an essential piece of equipment for emergency shelter, lightweight bivi , or evacuation. This is the best one I have found.
This new sled is perfect. It is light and compact yet super durable. As a mountain guide and AIARE instructor II often teach how to use a sled and I practice with it. Many sleds cannot take this kind of abuse and rips easily. This is bar none the best.
The Ski Guide Sled Tarp is an essential piece of gear for backcountry winter travelers. It’s a super useful piece of rescue gear that’s irreplaceable in the backcountry, and can also be used as an emergency shelter. This past winter, I went on a winter camping ski trip, and my partner and I had a unfortunate tent malfunction. Instead, we were able to dig a snow cave and cover it with the Tarp, and despite the fact that it was snowing heavy and wet, we stayed completely dry all night. I’m stoked on how durable it is, especially for its light weight!
I ordered in December 2023…SHOP still shows it in Tacoma.
